January can be a tough month for many people. Everyone is still feeling full, wallets are feeling empty and generally it is pretty grey with not much on. However, there are some positives of the month.
- January sales means your money goes further
Whether you are spending for yourself or on others, you can either get more for your money, or spend less on the same item compared to if you had purchased in the last month of the year. This is a great time to get ahead with shopping for presents either for birthdays throughout the year or even next Christmas! You could even be super prepared and get things like Christmas crackers. 2. Holiday offers
Not only are items in the shops on offer, holidays also tend to be incredibly cheap with airlines and hotels trying to boost their monthly sales figures. While you might want to book ahead for later in the year, why not consider a January getaway - make the most of the fact that your annual leave allowance has probably just reset and book a few days away somewhere exotic or unusual.
3. Yes it might be chilly outside, but that also brings the possibility of snow…
This might not be a plus for everyone, but in my opinion it is one of the best points of January. It seems to also snow more in January than December so throw on all of your knitted layers and embrace the fresh weather. You will be dreaming of this moment when it hits August and you can’t even get cold water out of the tap.
4. More availability - bars, restaurants and places to go
As many people overdo it in December and people try to cram as much as possible into that Christmas month, it means they may be feeling the pain in their stomachs and wallets come January, and might feel like some time off. You can make the most of this by catching up with friends who inevitably you didn’t see during the festive season as diaries were so packed, and the chance of getting a booking at your favourite restaurant is much higher.
5. New Year Resolutions
Whether you are really into celebrating new year’s or not, inevitably January brings with it some reflection. This may be on what goals you want to achieve for the coming year, whether you want to give yourself a new focus or if you want to look back at the past year and congratulate yourself for making it through. Concentrate on the positive and set yourself up for achieving even more in the next 12 months. Bask in the glow of creating targets and being on the right path to smash them.

However you feel about January, remember it isn’t that long and soon you will stop accidentally writing 2018 on everything and the blues will disappear! Spring is just around the corner.
